Homemade recipe for mint or lemon mouthwash

To appreciate the use of this mouthwash, like toothpaste, you need some time to "settle in" if you are not used to home-made products. Once you have been using it for a while, you will find it very pleasant. However, due to its essential oil content, I do not recommend daily use.

Ingredients:

  • 2 sachets of camomile tea
  • 2 level tablespoons stevia grains or liquid stevia
  • 100 ml distilled water (mineral, distilled or filtered water is best)
  • 1/2 tablespoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 5 drops of peppermint or lemon essential oil
  • 5 drops of vitamin E

Preparation:

Make an infusion with the chamomile and stevia. Once cooled, add the bicarbonate, the 5 drops of peppermint or lemon essential oil and the 5 drops of vitamin E. Swish your mouth for a couple of minutes and then spit out. Rinse again with clean water and spit again.

This mouthwash should be preserved in a dark glass bottle, protected from light (in a cupboard for example). Thanks to the leucidal, which is a natural preservative, it will last for a few days (about a week). If you store it in the fridge, it will last even longer. Always shake it well before use.

Note: essential oils have properties similar to medicines (see the article on the properties of different ingredients). That's why I don't recommend overusing this product. It is best to use it occasionally, once or twice a week maximum, and to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after use. Otherwise, it could alter your oral microbiota, among other effects.
